Influence of Orbital Foreign Bodies to the Eyeball

Abstract
1) Metallic foreign bodies (iron, copper, lead) were inserted into the supra-choroidal space and the orbit of rabbits.
2) The influence of metallic foreign bodies to the eyeball were studied by macroscopically and histologically 1-2 months¢¥ duration.
3) No specific findings were observed macroscopically, inner segment and outer segment of the eyeball.
4) Histological findings are as follows.
a) In the group inserting the copper into the suprachoroidal space, the tissue reaction is most evident. In the 1st month, acute non-specific inflammatory signs were observed, and 2nd month proliferation of connective tissues are relatively severe and infiltration of fibroblast and monocyte were observed.
b) In the group inserting the iron or lead into the suprachoroidal space, the tissue reaction is slight. In the 1st month slight tissue edema was observed, 2nd month, mild infiltration of lymphocyte and monocyte were observed.
c) In the group inserting the metallic foreign bodies into the orbit, no specific tissue reaction of the eyeball. was observed.
